ACJ Member Sophie Main has been awarded the first Crafts Council fellowship to study at Penland School of Crafts this summer. She is currently in her final year studying MA Goldsmithing, Silversmithing, Metalwork & Jewellery at the Royal College of Art. Sophie will be attending Kinetic Adornments under the tuition of Amir Friedman from 21st July – 6th August 2013.
"I was first introduced to Penland while studying a short course under the professorship of Robert Ebendorf at West Dean College and since then I have been keeping my eyes wide open for an opportunity to visit the Blue Ridge Mountains"
Sophie is currently working towards the RCA SHOW 2013, where she will be showing a collection of objects illustrating the fascinating historical process of Electrotyping. She is approaching the fellowship as an opportunity to continue working with her core themes of Collect/Create/Curate, and is keen to explore the role of objects and adornment in a different part of the world.
