Bowerbird Jewellery

Originally from Australia, I create fabric and mixed media jewellery from my home studio in West Cornwall. I’m inspired by the beauty of the natural world and I love to create colourful, unique jewellery for those who love to express their individuality. I use reclaimed and vintage fabric and occasionally found objects – any item that speaks to me to create wearable art.
My work has been published in several jewellery making magazines and I was commissioned by OH Design to create an example of Egyptian beaded netting for Truro Museum and Art Gallery’s Ancient Civilisations interactive exhibition in 2012. The beaded piece is still used for educational workshops.

I create unique and whimsical fabric and mixed media jewellery, accessories and Christmas decorations, from my home studio in West Cornwall. My work is colourful and quirky – perfect for those who love to stand out and make a statement with what they wear.
I am inspired by Art history and art movements such as Arts & Crafts and Art Deco, science and astronomy, historical places, the natural world and the Cornish landscape and its history.
I create a wide range of fabric button jewellery by hand - from rings, stud and dangle earrings in a variety of sizes, pendants, statement necklaces and lots more, as well as bespoke Christmas decorations and other home décor ornaments for different seasons! I aim to use the best quality jewellery materials in all my work – such as hypoallergenic surgical or stainless-steel ear wires and ear studs. All findings are nickel and lead free too.
I also aim to be environmentally conscious – the plywood I use in my jewellery is all FSC approved, all of my jewellery boxes are made from post-consumer waste and by a UK-based company. I also use fabric scraps donated from other makers and use vintage fabric in my work as well.
My most popular collection is inspired by the wonderful designs of William Morris - using cotton printed fabric and making my own self-cover buttons, these include: large and small pendants, rings, earrings, hair grips and cuff links.
I really come into my own during the festive season: Snowflakes, gingerbread men, tomtes/gnomes and of course my bestsellers – crystal diamante nutcracker soldier earrings and pendants – in a range of new colourways.
I started my business in 2010, all whilst working full time (which I still do!) Like many people, my business grew out of my hobby (I created beaded sculptural jewellery, which I still dabble in).
I sell my work online via Folksy, Etsy and my own online shop. My work is stocked in the lovely Arts & Crafts house in Birmingham – Winterbourne House and Gardens.
